MARCH/APRIL 2016
If you and your family are blessed with a wedding or another special event on the calendar this
year, you may be hosting guests in your home. Creating a lovely guest experience can be accomplished with a few thoughtful updates, making your guest room almost as memorable as the big event! Here are the essentials to create a welcoming guest room:
A COZY BED
Invest in bed linens that are simple and layered, so that guests aren’t too hot or too cold. Freshly cleaned sheets, a lightweight blanket and heavy blanket and fluffy pillows go a long way toward a good night’s sleep.
STORAGE
Nightstands are essential for glasses or medication. Provide a light, a clock, specially selected magazines and bottled water (or a small water pitcher and glass) to make your guest feel at home. Consider a pretty tray or dish to hold keys and loose change.
LUGGAGE RACK
HOOKS A stylish folding luggage rack is a nice touch and prevents your guests from having to bend over to dig around in a suitcase on the floor. Add a few hooks to an empty wall or over the
door for hanging towels or a robe.
CLOSET SPACE
Make sure you have extra hangers (wooden are ideal) and space for guests to hang their garments.
THE WI-FI ACCESS CODE
Find your code and print it on pretty paper and insert it into a small frame on the nightstand.
BATHROOM ESSENTIALS
Whether they have their own bathroom or share with your family, creating a basket of goodies is a lovely gesture. Place a small basket with sample size shampoo, conditioner, lotion and soap on the counter. Clean towels are also key — two per person is recommended.
It doesn’t matter whether your guest room is tiny or palatial. What’s important is that you have taken the time to ensure that your treasured visitors feel at home.
