The 100-plus young women who attended Girl Scouts Are Beautiful Inside & Out at the Roger Carter Community Center in Ellicott City last spring didn’t just learn valuable wellness tips. They were also given the tools to help them during the new school year and beyond.
“I grew up in Las Vegas where standards of beauty can seem impossible to attain,” says Tiffany Cianci, leader of Ellicott City’s Troop 2314. Cianci and her sister Krystal Henry, a troop leader in Las Vegas, created the event.
Girl Scouts from Howard County, Baltimore City and County and beyond chose to attend seminars with experts who focused on both the inside and the outside, says Cianci. A dermatologist, for example, talked about skin care with an aesthetician. There was a dietician and a personal trainer. Stress management sessions were run by a therapist and a yoga instructor.
Dr. Claudia Beck, from Pediatric Partners in Ellicott City, held age-appropriate Q&A sessions on such topics as vaccines, changing bodies and birth control.
The $28 admission fee covered the facility rental and lunch, while the Baltimore law firm Weltchek, Mallehan and Weltchek covered fees for nearly half of the attendees.
Plans are in the works for a repeat event held in April 2016, says Cianci.
