Wow! Where did the time go?
Could it be that summer is almost over already? No it’s not!
There are still plenty of days to pack in family-friendly activities and some personal playtime for you! Here’s what’s happening around Howard County!
Feast on Fresh Produce While you Still Can
Pick your own produce while the pickins’ are good at Larriland Farm (2415 Woodbine Road) in Woodbine. This family-owned farm keeps eager visitors up to date with a schedule on their website, indicating when specific fruits, veggies, and even flowers are ready for harvest. Make sure you dress to impress in your best pickin’ garb [solid shoes; long, but lightweight clothing; and a hat for shade]. Containers are provided for adults and children to share, but unfortunately fido is not allowed to participate. Visit: http://www.pickyourown.com/todays-harvest to learn more.
Enjoy a Local Gig as you Gobble your Lunch
The Columbia Association is bringing more music into your midday break with its Lakefront Wednesdays Lunchtime Concert Series. The showcase will take place every week from 12 to 2 p.m., until the final performance on August 12. This year’s featured artists span a variety of musical genres from rock and roll to jazz and R&B, and even folk music. Attendees will be offered a free cold beverage (beats struggling with the office vending machine) and the chance to win a raffle. Click here for more details!
Make Time for your Favorite Mutt (and Bottle of Wine) at Yappy Hour
Consider taking your pet out for a night on the town, specifically Yappy Hour at The Wine Bin (8390 Main Street) in Ellicott City. The first Friday of every month, from May until October, is dedicated to bonding with your beloved fur child, some fine wine, and some delicious chocolate treats (those are for humans only). From 6-9 p.m., and for a charitable fee, you can drink and dance the night away to live music. Only well-behaved pups allowed. For more information, check out: http://www.winebinec.com/yappy-hour.php.
Take a Scenic Summer Ride High Above Howard County
This daring journey will take your breath away, courtesy of the Friendship Hot Air Balloon Company (12465 Barnard Way) in West Friendship. Each tour runs for 45 minutes to an hour, with flights seven days a week, weather permitting. Take a trip with the kids, or that special someone, for a unique way to start the day, or a romantic end to a night out. The balloon rides only take place during two peak time periods: sunrise or two hours before sunset, so start planning! Only four passengers are allowed at a time, though something tells us all you’re going to need is room for two. For pricing and additional information, visit: http://www.ballooningusa.com.
