– 1 c. shortening
– 1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
– 1/2 c. granulated sugar
– 2 tsp. vanilla
– 2 eggs

– 2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
– 1 tsp. baking soda
– 1 tsp. salt
– 1 1/2 c. plain M&M’S® (3/4 lb.)

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
2. Blend shortening and sugars in large bowl. Beat in vanilla and eggs. Sift remaining dry ingredients together. Add to sugar and egg mix, blending well. Stir in 1/4 cup of candies.
3. Drop from teaspoon on ungreased cookie sheet. Decorate tops with candies. Bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown (8 minutes seems best).
4. Remove cookies with spatula to wire racks. Cool completely. After baking, some candies may crack. This adds texture and interest to cookie.
***Do not use baking soda and salt when using self-rising flour.
Yield: 6 dozen.
