Running a successful family-owned bakery since 2009 is sweet enough. But when Kupcakes & Co. scored a victory on an episode of the Cooking Channel’s new “Cake Hunters” show? Well, that was 
just the icing on the cupcake.
“It felt amazing to win,” says Michelle Kupiec, owner of the Elkridge-based shop. “All of the hard work, perseverance, passion and dedication to make the perfect, most spectacular cake paid off. It was a very proud moment for our entire team, who made the win possible!”
More impressive than that triumph, though, is the support Kupcakes & Co. gives to the region. Embracing a “pay it forward” philosophy, Kupiec and her staff host an annual Kupcakes with Santa event where 100 percent of the day’s proceeds – and employees’ pay – goes to Howard County General Hospital’s Pediatric Foundation. The bakery also donates hundreds of surplus goodies each week to food pantries, homeless shelters and crisis-intervention centers.
Happily, the community so nurtured by Kupcakes & Co. is just as supportive of the business. “Elkridge is a wonderful location for our bakery because we live there and have made incredible connections,” says Kupiec. “People have embraced our delicious treats, and we are blessed that we 
have the most loyal customers that keep coming back for all of their special occasions!”
