Just as a purse can pull together an outfit, Her Mind Magazine used the perfect purse as a way to bring together a community. For the second year, Power of the Purse collected quality pre-owned handbags and high-end auction purses toting gift cards and goodies.
The event is focused on the handbags, but the funds go to those who give a hand to women in need. Two charities are on the receiving end: Blossoms of Hope in support of the Claudia Mayer Cancer Resources Center at Howard County General Hospital, and Business Women’s Network of Howard County. “We raised $11,635 for the event this year,” said Pamela Moss, Community Relations Manager for Custom Media Options, LLC. “I am exhausted. I am excited and real happy that it was such a well-received event. Everyone had a glow and happiness about them.”
“The fundraiser was fantastic,” said Victoria Goodman, Executive Director at Blossoms of Hope. “It was a huge boost to the contribution that we will make in October to the Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource Center. It was fun and environmentally correct and everyone had a great time. I cannot thank Custom media Options enough for the opportunity. It looks like wear e going to have a record year – and a lot of that has to do with this contribution that they gave us.”
Angie Goodwin Johnson, president of the Business Women’ s Network of Howard County, is excited to be able to continue giving scholarships with proceeds from the event to women who want to continue their education. Angie’s day job as a Mary Kay beauty consultant lets her see first-hand how owning a business can change women’s lives. “I believe in education,” she said. “It empowers women, and it empowers families. A woman who is educated and willing to pursue her education and career makes a difference. She is a positive role model for her children and her community.” Angie applauds Her Mind Magazine for coming up with this fun and creative way to support women. “It is a fantastic idea,” she said. “And it’s a way to empower women.“
