Hosted by Patapsco Heritage Greenway and Benjamin Banneker Historical Park and Museum
You have heard of the famous Ellicott Brothers who founded Ellicott Mills. Now it is time to celebrate the lives and contributions of the Ellicott Sisters, Martha and Betsy. Martha wrote one of the first biographies of her famous neighbor, Benjamin Banneker, and Betsy’s cookbook was necessary read for homemakers of the time. These accomplished women were Quaker authors, historians, educators, religious leaders, social activists, homemakers, mothers, wives and all ‘round interesting women of the early and mid-1800s. Costumed interpreters will tell their stories, lead a hands-on pen, and ink craft. Watch some of Betsy’s recipes prepared on the hearth in Mr. Banneker’s cabin.
