Medical Fundraiser Party for Matcha Time Cafe OwnersDerek & Hatsumi Smith

Matcha Time Cafe owners Hatsumi Watanabe-Smith and Derek Smith are stranded in Japan while Derek recuperates from the massive heart attack he suffered June 27th on a Tokyo train as he and Hatsumi traveled to her father’s funeral.

They hope to return to Ellicott City sometime in August but in the meantime their medical and living expenses in Japan have spiraled upward into the crisis zone! ~ THE GOAL: to help them avoid financial disaster and to keep the cafe operating!

Join former Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman and his wife Robin, who have volunteered to serve food to guests! The menu includes assorted appetizers, sushi rolls, onigiri (flavored rice balls wrapped in seaweed), beef bowls, chicken curry, a large variety of hot and iced teas, plus Japanese ice cream, desserts and more. Also offering “Do Your Part for Derek’s Heart!’ food specials!
