Why we have listing guidelines

Her Mind Magazine is a trusted resource for women in Howard County, and the calendar, directory, and event listings we publish are among the most-used parts of that resource. Readers rely on them to plan their weekends, find local businesses, and discover community organizations. To keep these listings useful, accurate, and fair to everyone who participates, Custom Media Options, LLC (CMO) follows the guidelines described on this page. They apply to every advertiser, business, nonprofit, and organization that submits a listing.

What makes a strong listing

The best listings are clear, complete, and written for a reader who has never heard of your organization. Before you submit, please make sure your listing includes the following information:

• The name of your business, organization, or event, spelled exactly as you want it to appear.
• The date, start time, and end time of the event, along with the full street address of the venue in Howard County, Maryland.
• A short description of what attendees can expect, written in a few plain sentences.
• Cost and registration details, including whether the event is free, ticketed, or requires an RSVP.
• A phone number, email address, or website where readers can learn more.

Please keep descriptions factual and concise. Listings are meant to inform readers, not to serve as full advertisements, so promotional language, repeated exclamation points, and unsupported claims may be edited or removed.

Listing limits

To make sure every advertiser and business receives a fair share of space, we ask that you submit no more than five listings per month. If your organization hosts a large number of events, we recommend choosing the five that are most relevant to our readers, such as signature events, new programs, fundraisers, and seasonal offerings. Regular, ongoing activities can often be combined into a single listing that describes the full schedule.

Events must be held in Howard County

Because Her Mind Magazine is dedicated to the women of Howard County, events listed with us must take place within Howard County, Maryland. This includes communities such as Columbia, Ellicott City, Elkridge, Clarksville, Fulton, Highland, and Woodstock. Events held outside the county, or online events that are not tied to a Howard County organization, may not be accepted. If you are unsure whether your event qualifies, contact our editorial team before submitting.

Our right to decline a listing

CMO reserves the right to decline any listing at any time for any reason. This allows us to protect the quality and integrity of our publication and to respond to space limitations, scheduling conflicts, and content that does not fit the interests of our readers. A decision to decline a listing is not a judgment about the value of your organization, and you are always welcome to submit future listings that meet our guidelines.

Accuracy and changes

Advertisers and businesses are responsible for the accuracy of the information they submit. Please double-check dates, times, addresses, and contact details before sending your listing. If an event is rescheduled, relocated, or canceled after you have submitted it, notify us as soon as possible so we can update our online channels where we are able. Printed editions cannot be changed once they have gone to press, so timely communication is especially important for time-sensitive events.

Permission to publish

By submitting a listing, you confirm that you have the right to share the information and any related materials, and you give CMO permission to edit, publish, and promote the listing in Her Mind Magazine and across its associated channels, including our website, e-newsletters, and social media. We may adjust wording for length, clarity, grammar, and style.
