Top 10 Christmas Movies

It is hard to believe and crazy to think that Christmas is only a few days away! To get us all in the spirit I have made a list of what I think are the top 10 holiday movies. I placed a Santa cap atop my head, made my list and checked it twice. Please remember that this is just my personal opinion and narrowing the list down to 10 was very difficult as there is something to love about all holiday movies.

10. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) — I have not seen the latest version of the Grinch yet but there is something very special about the 2000 film with Jim Carrey. His comedic representation, Ron Howard’s ability to take the original short cartoon and turn it to a full length feature and the soothing sound of Anthony Hopkins’ voice as he narrates  is the perfect recipe for a great movie!

9. Elf (2003) — I am guilty of quoting this movie way too much, from “SANTA! I know him!” to “Buddy the elf, what’s your favorite color?” Will Ferrell’s depiction of Buddy the elf always brings out the kid in me with the excitement and magic of this time of year.

8. Home Alone (1990) and Home Alone: Lost in New York (1992) — Ok, I know its 2 movies but I couldn’t pick between them. The first one is a classic and the second has the beauty and holiday magic of New York. I always want to call my mom after watching these movies because I know that she would do anything and move mountains to get to me on Christmas like Kate McCallister.

7. The Santa Clause (1994) — I like to make this the first movie I watch after Thanksgiving to get me in the spirit. When the new Santa first visits the North Pole, I find it hard to not smile or get goosebumps when seeing the magic come to life.

6. The Polar Express (2004) — First off, who doesn’t love Tom Hanks’ voice? I will be the first to admit that I would love to have him narrate my life and the fact that he does most of the voices in this movie soothes my soul. Visually this movie excites me and blew my mind when I first watched it years ago.

5. The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) — There are so many versions of the classic “A Christmas Carol” so I forced myself to pick my favorite and nothing tops the Muppets in my book. With great comedy and original songs this depiction of Dickens’ classic is the best. I mean, Miss Piggy and Michael Caine sharing the same screen, need I say more?

4. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964) — My earliest memory of watching a Christmas movie was this one right here and it gets better and better every year that I watch it. And yes, it is mandatory that I watch it every year. The characters are so endearing and memorable. My favorite you ask? Two words, Yukon Cornelius.

3. A Christmas Story (1983) — This movie, in my opinion, captures Christmas morning as a child more accurately than any other. I could watch this movie over and over again, and luckily, thank you to some television stations I have that opportunity on December 25th. I have never heard someone talk about this movie without using the word “classic”.

2. It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) — I have yet to be able to watch the end of this movie without shedding a tear, joyous, happy tears of course. This movie is proof that life doesn’t always go as planned but that doesn’t mean your life still can’t be as full as you could have ever imagined. I am getting goosebumps just thinking about the end and that moment the bell rings and Clarence gets his wings.

1. Love Actually (2003) — Love Actually is not only my favorite Holiday movie but it is my favorite movie of all time. With so many story lines to keep your attention and touch your heart, this movie, in my book, is numero uno! Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Alan Rickman AND Liam Neeson…what else could you ask for? Oh a musical number at the end? You got it!
