Smith Family Recipe: Really Moist Thanksgiving Turkey

  1. Clean and salt & pepper the turkey. Melt stick of butter and pour over turkey.  Put turkey breast face down on the rack, put ¼” of water at the bottom of the pan (No need to cover turkey)
  2. Bake at 350 degrees F for 1 hour (for 18 lbs. and heavier turkeys. Less time for smaller turkeys).
  3. Turn oven down to 185 degrees F and cook 1 hour for every pound that the turkey weighs. (This also gives you lots of gravy.

***VERY IMPORTANT- if your oven has an auto shut-off feature, make sure you reset your oven about every 12-15 hours to avoid having your oven turn-off overnight and your turkey not being done in time!
