Make Self Care a Part of Your To Do List

SPONSORED BY CAPITAL WOMEN’S CARE OF HOWARD COUNTY

Warmer weather means busier schedules. Keeping yourself happy and healthy is just as important as checking off everything else on your to do list. Here are some ways to incorporate self-care into every day.

Physical Care

  • Take the time this spring to eat healthier, but without making it feel like a chore. Incorporate fruits and veggies into your diet by researching new fun recipes to try. Find some new healthy favorites, but allow yourself to indulge in a treat from time to time.
  • Pamper yourself often, you deserve it! Looking your best is a great way to feel your best too. So take the time to deep condition your hair and use that face mask. Why not enjoy some hot tea and listen to your favorite music while you’re at it.
  • Getting 8 hours of sleep daily is essential to every aspect of your health. Staying on a regular sleep schedule will help you cut back on caffeine, stay more productive, and decrease agitation and stress. Instead of that extra episode on Netflix or scrolling on social media, treat yourself to an extra hour of sleep tonight.

Emotional Care

  • Write self-reflections regularly. Keeping a journal and writing in it at least a few days a week can help you sort out your thoughts, keep track of your personal growth, and set goals for yourself. Be sure to look back on those goals and celebrate how far you’ve come! Writing is also a great way to get some relaxing alone time and keep your brain stimulated.
  • Take the time to reconnect with friends and family. Maintaining healthy relationships and communication habits is a great way to minimize stress and avoid feelings of grief or sadness. So pick up the phone and check in on your mom or an old friend today. They’ll appreciate the gesture and do the same for you in the future.

Mental Care

  • We all know exercise is great for your physical health, but it’s also essential for strong mental health. Wash away seasonal depression by getting outside in the sunshine for at least 15 minutes a day. There’s always time to squeeze in a walk around the neighborhood, a quick hike with your dog, or even a bike ride with the kids.
  • Pick up a new hobby this spring or get back into an old one that you’ve lost time for over the years. Doing things that bring you joy will reflect in the way you treat yourself and others.
  • When you’re feeling overwhelmed with your schedule, even if it is full of plans that are supposed to be fun with friends and family, don’t be afraid to take a step back. There’s no harm in canceling plans here and there to spend some time alone. Communicate to others how you are feeling and they will understand.
