ARTS AROUND

Farewell to a friend…

Michael Stebbins, producing artistic director of Rep Stage, the professional theatre company housed on the campus of Howard Community College, gives up his post as of this month. A passionate advocate of presenting classic plays with newer cutting edge off-Broadway comedies and dramas in the same season, Michael is off to return to his path as a free-lance actor and director. His first directing gig? Right back here, where he will direct the Rep Stage 2013-14 season opener, Horton Foote’s “A Young Lady of Property” in August. Later in the season, he’ll return to the stage to star in Doug Wright’s “I Am My Own Wife,” directed by Tony Tsendeas.  Ultimately, Stebbins plans to return to his roots in Wisconsin, where Milwaukee winters will fuel his creative spirit. It’s a little bit like when your best friend moves away…you know you’ll see him again but things will sure be different.
