Josephine “Joey” Gay, who was just 6-years-old when she lost her life during December’s massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, won the heart of everyone she met, despite the fact that she was autistic and couldn’t speak. Her mother, Columbia native Michele Gay, says that her daughter’s life’s work is not even close to completion. Starting with Joey’s Purple Ball, a fundraiser planned for this weekend in Towson, Joey’s parents are working to raise money for Joey’s Fund, which will go to support children and their families who are looking for autism treatment that may not be covered by insurance companies or school districts. The ball will be held Saturday, June 8 at Calvert Hall College High, where Joey’s dad, Bob, once attended school. Tickets are $100, with VIP tickets $150100. Expect food from Maryland restaurants, live music and a silent auction that includes a Super Bowl football signed by the entire Baltimore Ravens team.
