How to Make a Sanctuary of Your Master Bedroom

Isn’t it time to treat yourself to a master bedroom that is a sanctuary at the end of the day and puts a smile on your face when you wake up? Here are five ways to improve your master bedroom.

UPGRADE YOUR LIGHTING
Most bedrooms have one light fixture or fan in the center of ceiling that is intended to light the entire room. Consider upgrading your current light fixture to a delightful chandelier. To create even more mood, consider recessed ceiling lights and new bedside lamps. All lighting should be on dimmers or 3-way switches so you can control the atmosphere.

ADD DRAPERIES
If you only have blinds or shutters to block the morning light, consider adding drapes to soften the room and add color and texture. Hang them high on the wall on a lovely drapery rod.

LAYER YOUR BEDDING
This may be the most important thing you can do to upgrade your bedroom. After all, your bedding is the largest visual in the room and it should reflect the atmosphere you desire. If you have a comforter or duvet that you like, tweak it by adding a few more layers. A soft blanket at the foot of the bed, a few toss pillows or new sheets and bed skirt will complete the bedding. Select a palette you love and build your bed based on that color scheme. (TIP: Choose the room’s paint color from a color found in your bedding.)

GO BIG WITH BEDSIDE TABLES
Consider a small chest of drawers for a bedside table to maximize your storage and create a nice tabletop space for your lamp, a vase of flowers and a few pretty picture frames. Create an elegant space beside your bed—you’ll see it first thing in the morning and last thing at night so it should be pretty!

LOWER YOUR ART & INCREASE ITS SIZE
You are most often viewing the things on your wall while sitting or reclined on the bed. Lower pieces to meet your eyes. Consider new art, appropriately sized for your walls, to enhance your look.

Your master bedroom is such an important room in your home. Its décor should reflect the quality time you spend there.
