BLING FOR BOYS
Most women know what type of jewelry they like. But what about when it comes to buying bling for the man in her life? Sergio Ackley, the owner of Sergio’s Fine Jewelers in Ellicott City, guided us through some options.
How about a pair of enameled cufflinks ($60) featuring the logo of his favorite sports teams? Tie bars ($34) and money clips ($45) are alsoemblazoned with logos for the Orioles, Nationals, Ravens and Redskins.
Lightweight silver and gold bracelets – solid, links and even resembling a bicycle chain – are making a comback, says Ackley.
Many grooms nowadays eschew a silver or gold wedding band in favor of other metals, including titanium, cobalt and tungsten carbide. “Tungsten carbide doesn’t scratch and a lot of men like it because it stays shiny,” he says. Some rings mix metals, such as zirconium and cobalt, for a two-tone look. Wedding rings start at $300.
If you aren’t looking for a wedding ring, Ackley suggests a signet ring, made from a mold he fashioned from an antique original. The silver signet ring costs $329 and the gold is $1,400.
