Meet the Author : Tina Cassidy

March 19, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

In Partnership with Columbia Art Center and Patapsco Heritage Greenway. Sponsored by Friends & Foundation of Howard County Library System.

Celebrate the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote with author Tina Cassidy as she discusses her book, Mr. President, How Long Must We Wait? Explore the complex relationship between leading suffragist Alice Paul and President Woodrow Wilson, and the courageous and near-death journey she undertook for women to gain the right to vote.

Tina Cassidy, an acclaimed author and journalist, spent most of her career as a reporter and editor at the Boston Globe, where she covered a variety of topics, including business, politics, and fashion. She is also the author of Birth: The Surprising History of How We Are Born.

“Compact and energetic…A double portrait of Woodrow Wilson, the Democratic president whose opposition to suffrage gave way to half-hearted support, and Alice Paul, the single-minded young Quaker who brought to America the radical tactics she learned from the British suffragettes.” –Wall Street Journal

“Appearing as we approach the 2020 centennial of the amendment’s ratification, this book is especially timely, filled as it is with inspiration and practical lessons for activists, including recognition of the value of groups working separately for the same goal. Cassidy…also draws us into the unstoppable power of a movement.” – Ms. Magazine
