THE 19TH ST BAND

Caolaidhe came to America from Holywood, Northern Ireland in 2005 to pursue a music career. As fate would have it, he was lucky enough to meet Meghan, a classical violinist, who was working at an Irish pub while teaching music at a public school. He quickly auditioned her for the band (and for his future wife) and The 19th Street Band was born.

Characterized by high energy and strong vocal harmonies, The 19th Street Band brings together a constellation of Americana, country and rock. They ignite an audience with their passion for music, their magnetic presence and enthusiasm. The Celtic vibe that Caolaidhe Davis (guitar player and vocalist) blends with fiddle/mandolin player and vocalist, Meghan, creates a joy-filled chemistry that no crowd can resist. Add to the mix the talented rhythm section, Greg Hardin (bass) & Patty Dougherty (drums), and this band will have every crowd enthralled. Bridging rootsy musical traditions, their eclectic gypsy-rock spirit literally leaps from the stage and engages the crowd in the music. Their clever turns of phrase and unexpected syncopation teases the audience into wanting more from every song and set. They are addictive.

The 19th Street Band has had the honor of sharing the stage with country music stars such as Rodney Atkins, Craig Morgan, and Chuck Mead. They have opened for I Draw Slow, Town Mountain, Dangermuffin and Spirit Family Reunion at The Hamilton as well as Grammy Award-winning Western Swing icons, Asleep at the Wheel, at The Birchmere. They have packed the house at venues and festivals such as the 9:30 Club, The 8×10, Jammin’ Java, Charm City Bluegrass Festival, Iowa Irish Festival, National Cherry Blossom Festival, Kingman Island Bluegrass Festival, The Washington Folk Festival, Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge in Nashville, The Black Box in Belfast, and Hill Country BBQ in NYC. The 19th Street Band has steadily been performing over 200 shows a year for the past 6 years, and they are recently back from their third annual tour in Ireland, where they performed live on BBC Radio Ulster and were a part of the Open House Festival in Bangor and the Dunmore East Bluegrass Festival. Their first album, The Things That Matter, has received air play on BBC Radio and multiple stations throughout Europe & the UK; one track was also featured on Relix magazine’s CD Artist Sampler in 2018. The band’s second album, Kickin’ Up Dust, is due to be released before the end of 2019 and includes three songs that were co-written by Philip Donnelly and John Prine. Donnelly invited the band to record these songs with him at a studio in Ireland where he produced the tracks and performed as a guest musician on the album.
