WESTWOOD UNIQUE PUTS A SINGULAR SPIN ON HOME DÉCOR

westwood_antiques1westwood_antiques2If your walls (and rooms) could talk, would they yawn from boredom? Not if they’ve been decked out with one-of-a-kind pieces from Ellicott City’s Westwood Unique. For more than two decades, the home décor destination has been helping folks find just the right lamps, rugs, furnishings and other flourishes to make their spaces truly special.
“People don’t come in looking for one specific thing,” says Ingrid Melber, the shop’s owner. “They want what’s unique.” Some shoppers like to follow the trends, gravitating toward the latest “it” colors — which, this season, include green, blue, taupe and yellow — as well as Pantone’s color of the year, radiant orchid. They also look for styles du jour, Melber says. But that, she insists, can be a mistake.
“What makes a home ‘pop’ is decorating with things that are special to you,” she says, “and using your own personal characteristics.” In other words, it’s fine to be aware of what HGTV is trumpeting, but when it comes to actually outfitting your home? March to your own tune.
