Its thick stone walls may not guard cash and bonds anymore, but the historic bank on Ellicott City’s Main Street is once again home to treasures. This past May, the gorgeous circa 1906 building was transformed into Vintage Vault & Gallery, a one-of-a-kind shop filled with upscale costume jewelry, unique designer clothing and original works of art.

“We didn’t have a credit card machine or bags or anything,” laughs Jodye Russell, recalling opening week at the shop – which she co-owns with husband, Randall – when customers first started venturing through its wrought iron front door.

Since then, word has spread. Not only is Vintage Vault a distinctive shopping destination, its third floor is becoming a go-to spot for classes and artist receptions.

“We really want to welcome the community into that gallery space,” says Russell of the uppermost floor, adding that several events are in the works for the holidays. Of course, attendance is contingent on luring visitors away from the fabulous wares below.
